GALAXY PARK PLAYGROUND | FORT WORTH, TEXAS
Declining play facilities open up the opportunity for advancing technology to provide a safer and more fun way to engage the creative and physical aspects of children at play. The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History had decided its waterworks station in the colorful West Courtyard needed an overhaul and engaged Open Space TX and Valley Quest Design to help masterplan and develop Galaxy Park, a new space-themed playground designed for kids of all ages inclusive of various abilities.
The design concept included concrete paving styled to show the orbits and spatial relationships of a scale model of the planets in our solar system; poured-in-place surfacing was installed around all-new play equipment by Landscape Structures. The climbing structures and slides are complemented by play chimes and kettle drums. Guests are invited to comfortably linger at the benches, picnic tables, and planters while children play.
The playground opened in 2022 to all museum guests and will be utilized for educational programming.
